Johnson spoke during a brief telephone interview Wednesday as she promoted the Triple Play exercise program through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Coca-Cola.
Earlier this summer, Johnson told the Register that the timetable to prepare for the 2012 Games in London would require Olympic-level training before the end of 2009.
Though that level of training remains on hold, Johnson still says an Olympic run is possible.
"I haven't closed doors on any decision," Johnson said. "I've hired a personal trainer to get back into shape."
Johnson previously said Stanford and UCLA were her college finalists. On Twitter recently, however, she indicated there were five contenders.
On Wednesday, Johnson mentioned "Ivy League" and said a place closer to Iowa was a possibility.
"Stanford and UCLA are definitely my top two," she said, "but I'm not sure I want to put my other favorites out there quite yet."
Johnson, who is ineligible for NCAA competition because she is not an amateur, said whether she is involved in elite gymnastics while at college or settles into relatively normal student life remains undecided.
She said Chow would be involved in any resumption of her gymnastics career.
"Chow is still my coach - if I went back to gymnastics," she said. "I'd go back to him and definitely figure it into any of my decisions."
